Eagles continue to dominate over Tigers, go back to first

Luis Polonia was a double shy of hitting for the cycle, and Justin Miller pitched 6 strong innings, to lead the Eagles victory over the Tigers 7-4. Arnaldo Muñoz got his 3rd save of the season, all of them against the tigers

The Lions, on the other hand, fell to the Stars for the 2nd straight day, this time losing 5-0. This, combined with the Eagles' win, puts the Eagles tied in 1st place with them. Jung Bong pitched 6 scoreless for his 1st win, and Juan Camilo homered for the second straight day.

Finally, the Bulls continue to humilliate the Giants, and keep securing the 4th and final playoff spot. Felix Heredia got the win in the 7-4 victory.

Pedro Feliz debuts big... Lions slide off 1st place

Pedro Feliz, the Giants' captain, made a solid debut, homering twice and driving 5 runs in, while leading the Giants to a 9x6 win over the Lions.

The Eagles took advantange of the Lions' loss, and took over 1st place, but it wasn't easy. After leading for most of the game 2-0, the Bulls tied it up to force extrainnings, but the bullpen couldn't hold on, so the Eagles took it 4-2

The Stars had a huge 7th inning, where they scored 5 runs, to make a come from behind victory over the tigers, and take the game 9-7

Tigers snap skid, tie at second

Ronnie Belliard drove in 3, and the tigers offense just exploded, to kill the stars 14-1

In the meantime, the lions where shut out at home 10-0. That lead the way to a tie in 2nd place. Pedro Feliz went 3-5 for the winners...

In Santiago, the Bulls kept dominating in the Eagles' home, and kept their undefeated streak, by pounding the Eagles 15-8

            Great Time Last Weekend!

I had a wonderful time while I was visiting and what a game I saw on Sunday when the Lions came back and won . Sorry that your trip to Santiago was not as fruitful , a 9-0 loss is no fun.. I see where Julio Santana signed with Philly on Wednesday so maybe that is why he was not @ the stadium. I had a nice chat with Miguel Olivo on Sunday and also Bob Geron prior to the game.

On the way to the airport on Monday ,I stopped @ the academies of the Chicago Cubs, Diamond Backs ( although they were not in camp), and the Reds. What nice facilities they have. Looks alot like Spring Training here in the States.
Once again thanks for all the hospitality and companionship you showed me .

I see where by your great ongoing and detailed reporting where Licey is just 1 game back now . Go Tigers .....:gt Later James

Licey gets back on track, ties up at first place

Napoleon Calzado (picture) homered and doubled, driving in 4 runs, to lead the Tigers to a 5-2 victory... It was a sloppy game for the Lions' defense, where they commited 5 errors. Wilton Chavez got the win, while Nerio Rodriguez was charged with the loss and Roberto Novoa made the save.

In San Francisco de Macoris, the Giants improved to 3-0 since their captains (Pedro Feliz) debut. They came from behind, and scored 2 in the bottom of the 9th, thanks to 2 throwing errors on the same play, to take the game 4-3... That lead the way to a tigers tie at 1st place

In San Pedro de Macoris, the bulls closed the gap to 3rd place with another victory... Even though Raul Valdez didn't bring his best stuff yesterday, Nick Gourneault went 3-4, with a double and 3 RBI's, as the bulls beat the stars 9-6

Hope you enjoyed the country... Yeah, it was an awful game, with just had a bad season against the eagles (series now 6-1)... But we're back in the lead, and have 6 games left against the giants (last place) and 3 against every other team, so we have the best schedule down the strech

Eagles and Tigers remaing deadlocked at first

Jose Lima made his second start of the season, allowing 2 runs in 5.2 innings, to lead the Eagles to a 4-2 victory over the lions. That marked their 5th straight loss

In La Romana, the Tigers did their part in keeping up with the eagles, beating up the Bulls 5-2. The tigers scored all of their runs in the 5th inning. Napoleon Calzado drove in 2 of those. Yhency Brazoban got his 11th save.

In San Francisco, the Stars snapped their losing streak, by beating up the Giants 7-3. Nelson Cruz hit his league leading 9th homer in the losing end.

Just wanted to say thanks Licey Fan, this has been a great tread, and a great way to keep up with many of the players. Just a question do they play summer ball in the Dominican, and if so what is the level of ball? By that I mean A, AA, AAA. Thanks again.
Lets get Eddie Basinski elected to the Polish Sports Hall of Fame.

Summer Ball is played... but is class A

The teams are named after their parent organizations, since they are played between the MLB acadamies that play here... So the games are A's vs. D-backs
                        Mets vs. Phillies, etc etc

It doesn't get too much coverage

And it's been a pleasure... I'm doing the best I can

For you seeking info on new MLB additions: Neifi Perez (Lions), Duaner Sanchez (Giants) and Jose Offerman (Tigers) debuted yesterday...

If you want information on any particular player, as if its played, what's his dominican team, etc, feel free to ask

Tejada's already getting in shape... He'll play for sure... Pedro says he hasn't healed yet, but if he does in time, he'll pitch a couple of games... So count Tejada in, Pedro, not just yet...

The gap between the playoff contenders closes at the top

The gap between the 4 top teams narrowed even more, as the league leaders combined losses, and the lions and bulls won their games... The 5th and 6th spot teams are taking distance of playoff contention, so they should speed up if they wanna make it til january...

The Lions made an impresive comeback to win the game yesterday... After falling behind early 4-0, they made 1 run in the 6th, and 3 in the 7th to tie up the game... The tigers made one more in the 8th, to put the game 5-4, but then Yhency Brazoban blew the save, allowing 2 runs (only one earned, as D'Angelo Jimenez made a bobble in 2nd that let the tying run come in:grouchy) in the bottom of the 9th. Jose Offerman went 4-4 in the losing end, with a homer and 2RBI's and Jorge Sosa (debuting) threw a scoreles 8th. For the Lions Juan Tejeda was the hero, hitting the pinch hit walk-off single

In Santiago, Pedro Feliz homered for the 3rd time in 5 games, to lead the Giants to a 4-2 victory over the eagles. Juan A. Peña pitched 5.2 innings, allowing just one run. The knuckleballer Jared Fernandez had the loss and Jose Parra got his 3rd save.

The Bulls keep up their good momentum, and took care of the Stars 9-7. Juan Melo drove in 2 for the winners. Winston Abreu got the win, Francisco Rosario got the loss and Julio Mañon made his 2nd save.

Watch out for the bulls!! They tie up at second

The bulls confirmed the good time they are passing with an easy victory 7-3 over the Cibao Giants. Eddie Garabito was the best on the winning offense with a homer and a single... With their 7 runs yesterday, they're now the best scoring team in the league, with a total of 121 (3.27runs per game). They also now have a 4 game lead over the 5th spot stars, with 13 games remaining in the regular season, so the stars have to speed off, or they'll be left out of the big dance.
