Licey Tigers wins championship for 19th time

Dominican Winter League Final Series 2006 - Game 7

Licey Tigers 7 at Cibao Eagles 2

The Tigers completed the Miracle, and against all the odds (since no one gave them as favorites in the media), they crushed for the 3rs straight night the Eagles, to win the Dominican Championship for the 19th time, and top the all time dominican championship list!!!

With that win, now the Tigers go to Venezuela to represent the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean World Series.

Timoniel Pérez and Anderson Hernández were the best in the blue attack, that once again counted with an excellent performance of their bullpen.

Yesterday on the mound for Juan Cedeño, Calvin Maduro (4), Eddy Ramos (6), who won the game; Valerio De los Santos (7) and Jorge Sosa. José Acevedo was the loser.

For Licey, Timoniel Pérez, homered and singled with 3RBI's; Anderson Hernández, 3 hits, an RBI and a run scored; Rubén Rivera, 2 hits.

For the Eagles, Mo Peña, a HR and a single

Anderson Hernandez and Erick Aybar (picture) nicknamed "The Minors" were named Final Series Co-MVP.

The fans of the Tigers (me included) celebrated big their blowout victory yesterday in what could've been the last home gome for Licey this season. The duo "the minors" rocked the Eagles pitching once again.

Licey did what has been their strategy throughout the finals... Stay close against the starter pitchers, then pound the eagles weak bullpen, while our bullpen closes the game.

Now, even though NO ONE gave them as favorites, they're one game away of becoming the 2005-2006 champions, and reclaiming the crown to become once again the maximum winners in dominican league history...

For Licey: Anderson Hernández triple, double and single; Otañez, 3 hits; Calzado, 2 hits, including a double; Rubén Rivera and Carlos Ruiz, a double each

For the Eagles: Miguel Tejada 3 hits; Polonia a pair of singles.

Napoleon Calzado drove in 3 runs, including 2 with the game winning double; and Carlos Ruiz added two more; to push Licey past the Eagles 8-2 and take a 3-2 series lead.

Andy Abad added a pinchit homerun to seal the deal. Valerio de los Santos got the win after pitching 3 shutout innings in relief, while reliever Jose Nuñez got the loss, after allowing Calzado's double.

For the tigers: Calzado double and 3 RBI's; Andy Abad, 2 run homerun; Otañez, pair of doules; Ruiz, double and a single with 2 RBI's; Rivera a double.

For the eagles: Castro 3 hits; and Jose Fernandez a double.

"The Minors" help Licey tie up the series

Rookie of the year Anderson Hernandez (picture), and Erick Aybar, duo nicknamed "the minors" combined to hit 5-7, including the game winning double by Hernandez, to help Licey make a come-from-behind win over the Eagles and tie up the series at 2 games each.

The Eagles menaced in the top of the 8th, opening the inning with Luis Polonia on 1st, then manager Rafael Landestoy decided to bring his closer Jorge Sosa in the 8th, and after IBB Miguel Tejada, he struck out both Victor Diaz and Matt Cepicky to keep the score in favor of the tigers.

For the Tigers: Hernández 2 doubles and a single; Aybar, triple and a single; Andy Abad, a double.

For the eagles: Cepicky, a double; and Alexis Gómez, pair of singles.

Dominican Winter League Final Series 2006 - Game 3

Licey Tigers 3 at Cibao Eagles 7

Miguel Tejada is the best ranked player in the Final Series, and to pitch him's always a risk. Yesterday, the tigers risked it and payed for it. Tejada hit a 3 run monster blast to help the Eagles seal the deal against the tigers 7-3.

Jared Fernandez didn't make his best performance of the season. He pitched six innings, allowed 6 hits and 3 earned runs, while striking out 3. On the other hand Licey's started Danny Tamayo made an excellent performance but it wasn't enough. He piched 5.1, striking out six, and allowing only 3 hits and one earned run. He retired 15 out of 17 batters before allowing 2 hits in the top of the 6th inning to jump off the mound.

The loss was for Carlos Perez, who couldn't do the job has he had the previous games.

For Licey: Ron Belliard went 2-3 with a double, a HR, 2 scored, 1 RBI and an IBB.
