Pinar del Rio won the title for 2010-2011, beating Ciego de Avila (a first-time finalist). Yosvani Torres was finals MVP and Alfonso Urquiola the winning manager. See http://www.baseball-reference.com/bu...ational_League for details.

Is Pinar del Rio catcher Pedro Luis Rodriguez related to former Cuban star Pedro Luis Rodriguez? I thought the former star defected, making it unlikely, but was wondering.

Yoennis_Céspedes (http://www.baseball-reference.com/bu..._C%C3%A9spedes) and José Dariel Abreu (http://www.baseball-reference.com/bu...9_Dariel_Abreu) both set a new Cuban home run record (33) in the recently completed 2010-2011 season.

The 2010-11 National Series schedule isn't out yet. As for going to a game, once you've confirmed the team is at home, just go to the stadium. It's not like U.S., where you can buy tickets in advance. (Also, keep in mind that Cuba switched to day baseball last year to save energy. Only one game per day is at night (so it can be televised); the other games are in the early afternoon.)

I don't believe this season's schedule has been released yet....check baseballdecuba.com, they will have the schedule up at some point.

Unrelated to the discussion above, but I am going to Cuba from November 27 until December 4. I wanted to see if Villa Clara was home during that time, but I am unable to find a schedule. Does anyone know where I can find a schedule? Also, how someone would go about getting tickets to the game? I am staying in Coyo Santa Maria at a resort there, so I imagine if I enquire at the front desk someone could hook me up.

Alfredo Despaigne (http://www.baseball-reference.com/bu...redo_Despaigne) was named Cuba's MVP for the second straight year, only the third player to accomplish that feat after Wilfredo Sanchez and Yulieski Gourriel. The 2009-2010 season is over. The Industriales took the title despite a 47-43 regular season, the second-worst regular season by a Cuban titlists. The finals were exciting, with the Industriales winning the last two on the road, game 7 in extra innings.

Phil -- I haven't seen Cubano post here in a long time.

Is there any possibility the Cuban government might subsidize the games ?
As discussed before, I can't see any possibility of this happening. For one thing, for Cuba to host games, the WBC would probably need a waiver of various aspects of the U.S. embargo -- travel, financial, etc. This is highly unlikely.

Then, even if those hurdles are cleared, the WBC would either have to operate at a massive loss in Havana or the Cuban government would have to subsidize the event -- and there's *no* chance of that happening. Cuba has withdrawn from several athletic events in recent years because of a lack of funding; there's no way Cuba would pay millions of dollars just so some WBC games could be held in Cuba.

    Cubano100%,

What do you think is the possibility of Cuba ever hosting some games of the World Baseball Classic (WBC) ?

I believe Cuba and Korea deserve to host some WBC games because of how well they have done on the field during the first two WBC's.

But others have replied that political problems between Cuba and the USA would prevent this from happening, and that even if Estadio Latinoamericano in Havana were filled with 55,000 fans there would be low ticket revenue due to lack of hard currency in Cuba.

Is there any possibility the Cuban government might subsidize the games ?

Does anyone know if the Cuban Baseball Federation has ever sent a formal proposal to the WBC requesting that Cuba host a pool of the WBC ?

    Thank you. Gracias.

I believe Francisco Despaigne is the father of current Industriales RHP Odrisamer Despaigne. No idea who Juan Francisco Robles is; the absence of "Despaigne" in his name leads me to believe they're not brothers.

Were Cuban pitchers Francisco Despaigne Robles and Juan Francisco Robles brothers? The names lead me to think so but I can't find confirmation anywhere.
