  • Korean Professional League

Can anyone give me some information on this league, and what they've heard?

I just recently found out they have a fairly competitive and well paying league, which I am curious to find out more about.

Pretty much anything you've heard or know would be helpful.

There's a forum at japanesebaseball.com which covers the KBO which might be of interest to you.
Seen on a bumper sticker: If only closed minds came with closed mouths.
Some minds are like concrete--thoroughly mixed up and permanently set.
A Lincoln: I don't think much of a man who is not wiser today than he was yesterday.

Thanks, lots of links to Korea pages, but a couple with international players playing there... Jose Lima? who knew.

Any input on how these leagues are run? Just a meat market for players, or worthwhile making the trip? I've heard bad things about some leagues like Taiwan with players throwing games for money and whatnot, I don't want anything to do with leagues like that.

        Baseball in Asia

There has been some issues in the past with players throwing games. As in any situation like this; they officially state thet the issue has been rooted out and eliminated. Japan is certainly the best. Japan's "minors" are literally just an extension of the main teams and often play in more interesting stadiums. Korea is often associated as the next best followed by China.

There is also a Senior league in Japan that is literally just like the old Senior league that failed in the states in 1990.

Japan also has two independent league. These tend to be much less attended. These league have a little more individuality from the players, but the play is still very high concerning fundamentals as is the case for all ball in Japan.

If it your first trip to any of these places; be prepared for a major culture shock inside the stadiums. The basics are the same, but it is a whole different beast. Think of soccer in the states versus that south of the border minus the rowdyness.

          Thanks for the reply.
From playing in the World Championships last year, and beating Taiwan, I believe I have a slight grasp on the crazyness of some of the games. Unfortunately I started games that had about 85 people at.

But, I can imagine living in a home, shopping and dealing with all the inns and outs of the life there would be quite a different deal though.

Are you speaking from experience on the Japanese leaguses?
