Does anyone have a theory as to why Puerto Rico has produced so many great catchers? It looks like Geovanny Soto is the next great one. In the past twenty years Puerto Rico has produced Pudge, Benito Santiago, Jorge Posada, the Molina brothers, Javy Lopez and Sandy Alomar Jr. Also there are several reserve catchers currently playing at the major league leavel. That is amazing for a small island. I can't think of any great Dominican, Mexican, Panamanian or Venezuelan catchers. Tony Pena from the DR was pretty good.
