  • 2014 Asia Series???

Not sure if/when this will happen, because we've had zero news regarding the series this year. If it is going to happen, It should take place from November 3-11, as the Perth Heat, the 2013-14 ABL Champions, has their scheduled bye week at that time.

Assuming it could be six teams again, with the returning CBL (China)....

    NPB - Japan Series Champion
    KBO - Korean Series Champion
    CPBL - Taiwan Series Champion
    CBL - Chinese Series Champion
ABL - Perth Heat (2013-14 ABL Champions)
EURO - 2014 European Cup Champion

It looks like the 2014 Asia Series will not be held, after all.

I don’t see any 2014 Asia Series graphics on either the KBO or CPBL websites; not a good sign. I hope this isn't the end for this event. The ABL is probably not ready to play host and their Champion winning it may have soured the Koreans and Taiwanese on hosting it again. The Japanese don’t value it as much as they did in its early years. What is to become of this tournament? Down the road, I would have liked to see the Caribbean Series Champions join this event.

It would then start to look like the Confederations Cup!

Yes, it would. I remember when there was talk of having the KBO Champion play in the Caribbean Series. Anyway, If last year's Asia Series featured the European Champions, then the next logical entry would have been the Caribbean Series Champion. Obviously, the event name would have to change if this were to happen.

I'm willing to blame the Canberra Cavalry for breaking the Asia Series...

Didn't the Calvary use a bunch of ABL players and it wasn't the current ABL team? I strongly disliked the format.

They did have a couple of ringers. As well as the Heat's old manager on their coaching staff.

If NPB teams would sign their players through the Asia Series, then Japan would dominate this tournament again. I believe Masahiro Tanaka, Andrew Jones and other imports didn't play in last year's Asia Series. Btw, the 2014 Asia Games are underway and Incheon, South Korea is the host. The KBO is pushing its season back to make room for it.

Asian Games baseball starts Sept. 22, but then again I guess it's already Sept. 22 in Incheon.

Here are my updated predictions for this tournament.

Bad news from the Italian baseball federation's Twitter feed:
Saltano le Asia Series 2014. Dal 2013 avevano avanzato velleità di divenire un Mondiale per Club di baseball, dovrebbero tornare nel 2015
Run it through Google Translate and you get:
They are skipping the 2014 Asia Series. From 2013 they had advanced ambitions of becoming a World Cup of baseball; they should return in 2015.

Wonder why they declined. Is it a team decision or league decision? Wonder if offers could then be sent to the 2nd or other teams then.

                            Looks like scheduling conflicts mainly.

In making the decision the Steering Committee took many factors into consideration including; the resignation of Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) Commissioner, Jenn-Tai Hwang and re-arrangements of the CPBL Executive Board, scheduling conflicts with the planned Nippon Professional Baseball- Major League Baseball series featuring the Samurai Japan team in November, and the interruption and extension of the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) regular season to allow KBO players to participate in the Asian Games 2014 in Incheon, Korea. These factors all contributed to the difficulty of securing a suitable date for the event.
