  • According To OPS+ (Stat Warfare!)

I like and understand most of the new(er) stats, but sometimes they create cognitive dissonance!

    According to OPS+ this season:

    591 - 54 - 172 - 37 - 1 - 6 - 72 - 73 - 57 - .291 - .373 - .387 (132 ops+)

    Is better than this season!!:

    645 - 108 - 206 - 28 - 4 - 46 - 144 - 40 - 89 - .319 - .362 - .589 (127 ops+)

Era and ballparks be darned, I can't wrap my head around this. Twice as many runs and twice as many RBI. The whole point of offense, sending them home and getting there yourself.

Season one was the Year of the Pitcher and season two was smack-dab in the steroid era, but I don't care. Aesthetics matter. I'd take season two every single time if given a choice.

The beauty is putting context to raw numbers, these seasons were roughly of the same value on a per plate appearance level.
