(edit) I just tried fooling around with these files, and they work; you can sort by category and hover to see an explanation. There are probably a lot of other things you can do, so by all means check the play index pages for various instructions.
The above links take you to BB Ref files I compiled. Altogether, they have the batting stats for all players with 3000 or more PA. Unfortunately, the share function works page by page, so the 1800 or so players are spread out over these 9 files. I included WAR, WAR defensive runs, and runs created, so these may be useful even if you have the Lahman or other free databases.
I did not include OPS+, which was an oversight.
On the other hand, one of my reasons for doing this is to get people interested enough in the play index tool to buy a membership in the site. The fee is modest, which of course doesn't help if you don't have it,
but the information you have access to is astounding. And it's a great site anyway; we should be supporting it if we use it and can afford to.
I'd encourage sponsoring a player site: you get to a membership and play index along with it. Last I looked, George Kelly was going very cheaply. Think of it, your own pet hall of famer.
If anyone makes use of the files, please let me know if there are problems. I assume that downloading, converting, etc, work like other files, per instructions. (Even without a membership, uou can try out the tool and get to know how those things work.)
Hope it is of interest to you.
