The Uptons...
Of the guys you mention, I've only seen a lot of Toregas. I am, shall we say, not a fan of Tech baseball, but he's pretty great. Looked awesome in the Carolina League, definitely fun to watch as a catcher. I hope they have a good batting coach in Buffalo.

Top prospects-among ballplayers from Virginia
Over the last few years, the state of Virginia has emerged as a hotbed of baseball talent. 3B Mark Reynolds (Va Beach) hit 17 HR as a rookie for ARZ. P Justin Verlander (Goochland) has 35 wins in 2 years, AL ROY, and pitched a no hitter for DET. P John Maine (Stafford) broke through in 2007 with NYM, winning 15 games, with a 3.91 ERA and 180 K's. And of course, the impacts of David Wright and Ryan Zimmerman. I could go on and on here. So, with that in mind, I did some reading to try and find the next potential impact player from our state. There are 5 names that I really like. In no particular order, they are:
C Wyatt Torregas, CLE; IF Brandon Snyder, BAL; P Ryan Speier, COL; 1B Joe Koshansky, COL; P Justin Orenduff, LAD.
(MIL P Jeremy Jeffress had a shot to make my list of Virginia prospects to watch for, but due to 4 failed drug tests in the last 3 years, and beginning the 2008 season on the suspended list for one of those violations, I wonder if he has any sort of future in baseball.)Tags: None
