  • Basin League picture

The Basin League was a semi pro league that existed in South Dakota from 1954 to 1973. It really flourished up until about 1966.

My Dad always talked about Ron Peranowski and Dick Radatz played for the Watertown team, when we lived there in the late 50s and that he saw Frank Howard play as a visiting player. I never could find any documentation for this, as baseball reference doesn't show semi-pro stats. I was born in 1956, so I don't remember.

But today, I found proof. Here is a Basin League picture gallery that shows all 3, and some other future major leaguers.

Dad, I never doubted you, and I know that you're smiling up there.
