    Why Not Buck

Can't beleive Buck O'Neal did NOT get in.......what a gentleman he is. He did so much for baseball and he still is about the best embassitor the game could have. I went to hear him talk and that he did for over one hour, that seemed to be about 10 minutes................great man, would love to call him dad (and I'm white). Just an honor to meet him. maybe next year/

Being famous or an ambassador doesn't admit you to the Hall of Fame.

Now if you want to taint the HOF just add something like this to it:

What the lame public will do now adays for publicity...and stroking "others"

Peter Gammons did not get elected in as a player but as a writer. Buck O'Neil would have to be voted in as a player.
Buck O'Neil I believe himself doesn't believe that he should be in the Hall of Fame. He was an All-Star player in the Negro leagues, but he says that he wasn't good enough to be in the Hall of Fame compared to Mule Suttles and Satchel Paige and so on.

the only writer in the hall of fame is henry chadwick

must be taking about some award that is given out - but the does not included induction into the hall of fame proper

I'm referring to Buck O'Neil and Minnie Minoso not getting elected.

Gammons is in the writer's wing, in the basement with other writers and the broadcasters, too. He is not actually a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, but part of a list of auxiliary awards winners that are essentially hall of famers for their field. Not in the actual gallery you see as you walk in the doors at the museum in Cooperstown. The one with all the plaques.

Writers' wing. Different award, different situation.

Are you weighing their actual contributions or their reputation?

You don't get in just because you talk a good game. Frankly he is more famous for his talk than his actual contributions on the field. He may get in some day as a contributor alongside the other major contributors but he won't be in with the players and coaches.
