According to The Philadelphia Phillies Publicity/Public Relations, Vice President, Larry Shenk, who has helped to host many Special Promotions honoring the Philadelphia Stars and their former players, the death of Harold Gould means that there is only one remaining Philadelphia Stars player alive. He is Mahlon Duckett, who played third baseman, shortstop, and second baseman for the Stars for 9 1/2seasons between 1940 and 1949. DUCKETT PLAYED ALL BUT ONE and a half SEASONs OF HIS eleven year NEGRO lEAGUES CAREER WITH THE PHILA. STARS -( He was with the Homestead Greys of Pittsburgh for the later part of 1949 and 1950 ). Mr. Duckett is 89 years old and is about five weeks away from his 90th birthday.
(Born: Dec. 20, 1922) .The Philadelphia Stars was the last of several Philadelphia Negro Leagues teams. The Stars played for 20 seasons in PhilADELPHIA FROM 1933 TO 1952.
