  • Most players in one MLB game?

When the Chicago White Sox played the Seattle Mariners on the 18th of September 1980, 41 players took part in the game. Is this a MLB record?

No. I don't know the record, but This year's 14-inning world series game had more (43). I'm sure there were more in a September regular season game

One more to add to the list. I still don't know the record, but 9/13/82, the Dodgers beat the Padres in 16. The Dodgers used 28 players, the Padres 22, total 50.

Cubs & Astros supposedly used 53 players in a game completed on 9/3/1986
Mythical SF Chronicle scouting report: "That Jeff runs like a deer. Unfortunately, he also hits AND throws like one." I am Venus DeMilo - NO ARM! I can play like a big leaguer, I can field like Luzinski, run like Lombardi. The secret to managing is keeping the ones who hate you away from the undecided ones. I am a triumph of quantity over quality. I'm almost useful, every village needs an idiot.

Why was Davey Lopes playing CF for the Astros? Is there more to the story than the boxscore?

Lopes was primarily a utility player in his last few years. By the time he played for the Cubs, he spent more time in the OF than the infield

On September 25, 1992, the Mariners and Rangers played a game which involved 54 players.

Also, on September 19, 1972, the Athletics alone fielded 30 players in a game against the White Sox.
