Let's start with the Red Sox, a perfect example of this question. Pumpsie Green finally became their first black player in 1959, some 12 years after Jackie Robinson. But he was a bench player. Next year, the Sox had their first black regular. Who was he?

Earl Wilson was in the rotation soon after that, not sure how soon

Chicago Cubs had two black players who played everyday.
The year is 1954 and the players are Gene Baker and Ernie Banks.

I believe the Orioles is Bob Boyd. Paul Blair, Sam Bowens, and Willie Tasby also played before Robinson.

It's not Earl for the Red Sox. However, the answer has been mentioned elsewhere in this thread.

The Red Sox would be Willie Tasby

I believe the Washington Senators/Minnesota Twins would also be Willie Tasby (along with Chuck Hinton and Benny Daniels)

True if we're talking about position players. If we count regular pitchers, though -- and I think we should -- Brooks Lawrence (1954) and Sam Jones (1957) both came before Flood (1958).

By your definition (below), the first everyday player for the Browns-Orioles franchise would be Hank Thompson who was the starting second baseman for the Browns from July 17 through August 23 1947. Followed July 19th by starting center fielder (and HofF member) Willard Brown.

For the Tigers I think it's probably Jake Wood and Billy Bruton, in 1961.

It wasn't spelled out in so many words, but I think we can all agree that "everyday" means being a regular for a full season, or at least seeing the bulk of the duty at that position.

I wondered about Hank Thompson with the Giants, for example. he only played 69 games at 2B in his first season in New York after his brief stints in St. Louis. But the encyclopedias still list him as the "regular" because he got more starts than anyone else.
