    First College Graduate

    I've seen references that Arlie Pond was the first college graduate to pitch in the major leagues. I'm a little sceptical considering he didn't come up until 1895.

    Anyone know of college graduates prior to Pond? - specifically the references I've seen note "pitcher"

    Would be interested in any college graduates before Pond though. Please just graduates - not attendees.

    I know that Bert Abbey, for one, did not graduate - if that helps.

    I don't know if they graduated but I believe they all came up before Pond and all went at least four years

          Harry L. Taylor graduated from Cornell University in 1888.

            Monte Ward went to Penn State, but didn't graduate when he still pitched. After his arm went bad, he finished his law degree at Columbia while playing for the Giants.
