  • The G-Men Got Him

They nailed the kidnaper, murderer and bank robber who used the alias of 'Anders'. He operated a timber company in Washington. But made trips to Wi and Mn to rob banks... His biggest crime was a kidnapping which resulted in two deaths. His real name probably isn't remembered by many, or maybe anyone for that matter, as Dillinger was getting all the headlines. Before Anders was fried, he admitted that he had planned to kidnap a future Hall of Famer. He changed his mind when he thought it would be too tricky to get a ball club involved with paying a ransom. So he nabbed a millionaire instead. Name the player....

A clue: I checked on the web and see there is actually a fiction book out, in which this hoodlum actually does kidnap this player during the Series. I suspect the author got the idea from the real story..

Clue two:If this kidnaper had gone ahead with his plans, I can't help but think he would have regretted it.. Keeping this player quiet? No Way...

If it was the 30s and the player was noisy, I'm gonna first guess Dizzy Dean.

And you're gonna be right....John Seadlund was the real name of Anders.. and I see on the web there was a book put out last year that has the scenario of Seadlund and his partner(who he killed) Gray kidnapping Dizzy. After being caught in the Ross kidnapping case, Seadlund admitted he had made plans to really kidnap Dean but changed his mind. One of those little stories from year's gone by that aren't often known..

That was great, man, I'd never heard that at all. And I like that it was a Swede (or person of swedish descent just judging by his name and nickname) who was planning the job. I live in Sweden these days.

Why on earth kidnap Dean, though? Surely Gehrig would be quieter and raise more cash.
