Supposedly Sheckard did it in 1898 which is pre-modern era. The reference for this is the Arizona Diamonds press guide for yesterday game. You would assume they got their info from MLB. They make no mention of Cepeda.
The only reference I can find about Cepeda is in baseballlibrary.com which is known for its inaccuracies.
