  • Who has made the most outs in a game??

The Rockies and Padres just played a 22 inning game

So I was wondering who has made the most OUTS in 9 inning game and the most outs in a game

I know Clarence Mitchell made 5 outs in the 1920 World Series

and I am sure someone must have gone 0 for 10 or more in that game yesterday

I don't know if these are records, but, since 1956...

Four players have gone 0-10 in extra-inning games.
339 players have gone 0-6 in a 9 inning (or less) game. No one has gone 0-7 or worse.

Perhaps I should repharse the question

Who has made the most outs in a 9 inning game (Double Plays count as 2 outs and triple plays count as 3 outs, so Clarence Mitchel hit into a Double and Triple Play so he got 5 outs)

WHo has made the most outs in a game (Extra inning game)

Heres a spinoff question...what fielder has made the most outs (excluding pitchers for Ks)
"I don't like to sound egotistical, but every time I stepped up to the plate with a bat in my hands, I couldn't help but feel sorry for the pitcher."
        -Rogers Hornsby-

"People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
        -Rogers Hornsby-

Just a note to all the active members of BBF, I consider all of you the smartest baseball people I have ever communicated with and love everyday I am on here. Thank you all!

A whopping 42 putouts by Walter Holke at 1st base in a 26-inning game in 1920. The next highest is "only" 32.

Mike Kreevich (and a HOFer I forget) also grounded into 4 DP in a game

                From the Random Trivia page:

The worst hitting performance in a single major league game is a toss up between two players. Both players played for the same team. In the same game. On May 1, 1920, two pitchers who would otherwise do absolutely nothing important in the majors, Brooklyn’s Joe Oeschger and Boston’s Leon Cadore, both pitched complete games over 26 innings, in a game that nobody won. It was called because of darkness with the score knotted at 1-1. Okay, most of us knew that already. What you may not have known is that the two most unproductive days at the plate in history also occurred in that game. Braves’ 2nd baseman Charlie Pick and 3rd baseman Tony Boeckel both went 0-11. Rarely can it be said that a hitter is mired in a slump following just one hitless game, but….

Ah, I just saw this. Perhaps I should read the entire thread before tossing in my two cents! It's awfully hard to beat Utter Chaos' and RMB's entries!

Felix Millan had gone 4 for 4, and was erased in each DP hit by Torre.

Pitchers get credit for strikeouts, the catchers get credit for the putouts. Unless the third strike is uncaught.

That was a 24-inning game against the Astros - and the final score was 1-0, won by the Astros. On April 15, 1968.

That game was like an omen for the 1968, "Year of the Pitcher." One run, between two-teams, after 24 innings of play. A bunch of "instant slumps" were recorded that evening.

Charlie Pick and Tony Boeckel both went 0-11 on May 1, 1920. Not sure how many double plays each hit into. Even if neither hit into a single DP, it could be the record for most outs generated by a batter in one game, I suppose. It's almost as bad as a player hitting into 6 DPs in a game! If there were DPs involved, wow.
