  • How good are you at baseball trivia?

***Try and answer this question with your brain only. No websites, books, phone calls, text messages, friends, morse code, or anything else.***

The following players have had a GRAND TOTAL of how many 200+ hit seasons?

Mark Grace (had the most hits in the 1990s)
    Edgar Martinez
    Chipper Jones
    Mel Ott
    Will Clark
    Ted Williams (6 batting titles)
Lou Boudreau (had the most hits in the 1940s)
    Roberto Alomar
    Enos Slaughter
    Manny Ramirez
    Barry Bonds
    Mickey Mantle
    Orlando Cepeda
    Frank Thomas (the current player)
    Ken Griffey Jr.
    Duke Snider
    Carl Yastrzemski (3 batting titles)

Be sure to double check your math.

If you get it exactly right, you are a baseball trivia hall of famer (but first you will be tested for steroids).
If you come within 1-5, you are a 5-time all-star. :applaud:
If you come within 6-8, you are a gold glover.
If you come within 9-11, you are riding the pine.
If you come within 12-15, you are being sent down to AAA ball. :grouchy
If you don't come within 16, you are going to be sent down to A ball, and then you'll be traded for 10 bats.

Off the top of my head, I wonder if it's freaking zero
Mythical SF Chronicle scouting report: "That Jeff runs like a deer. Unfortunately, he also hits AND throws like one." I am Venus DeMilo - NO ARM! I can play like a big leaguer, I can field like Luzinski, run like Lombardi. The secret to managing is keeping the ones who hate you away from the undecided ones. I am a triumph of quantity over quality. I'm almost useful, every village needs an idiot.

I know that Williams, Boudreau, Ramirez, Bonds, Mantle, Snider and Yaz never had a 200 hit season, so I'm going with zero too.
I've tried 'em all, I really have, and the only church that truly feeds the soul, day in, day out, is the Church of Baseball.

I'll go with 1 just to be different.
          I'd still be a 5 time all-star!

OK, I lied, it's zero. I tried tricking you guys, but you're too good. Well done! :applaud:
I was very surprised that Edgar Martinez, and Ted Williams had zero.

I have a companion question. These guys combined to draw about six hundred Hall of Fame votes
P-Dickie Kerr, Don Larsen, Orval Grove
              C-Hank Gowdy
              1B-Hal Morris
              2B-Eddie Miksis
              3B-Eddie Grant
              SS-Charlie Gelbert
              OF-Hank Edwards

How many HOF votes did these players combine for?
P-Jim McCormick, Tony Mullane, Bob Caruthers, Steve Rogers
              C-Mickey Tettleton
              1B-Hal Trosky

              SS-Vern Stephens
OF-Roy White, George Van Haltren, Ken Singleton

                    Hard Questions....

You guys (and gals) really do come up with tough but very interesting trivia questions...

We all know that Don Larsen delivered 97 pitches in his perfect effort against the Brooklyn Dodgers in game five of the 1956 world series but does anyone know how many pitches Sal Maglie delivered that day? Also...

How many Dodger batters came close to getting a hit against Larsen that day and who are they?

                    Comment

Duke Snider crushed one just foul in the top of the fourth

You can add CF Terry Moore (72 votes) and OF Doc Cramer (18 votes) and fill in your outfield.

I can't get over the 72 votes for Terry Moore. Yeah, I know his defense was awesome and he played for championship teams. Sounds a lot like Paul Blair (8 votes) and Devon White (0 votes). Jeez, Fred Lynn only got 48 votes.

I believe 48 more than Wynn, Van Haltren, Ryan, Hines, Otis, Gore, Browning, and Griffin COMBINED :disbelief:

Robinson hit a smash in the second that bounced off Carey to McDougald, who threw him out. Gil Hodges hit a long liner in the 5th that Mantle ran down, he also smashed a liner in the 8th that Carey speared. Reese got to three balls in the first (would have broken the perfect game) but then fanned.
