This guy is one of a kind. He is the only one who saw a no-hitter in three straight years. Saw the last game at two memorable stadiums, saw a legendary record tied, and was there when something happened for only the second time in history.

    Who is this guy?

Ed Vargo fits at least your first description
Mythical SF Chronicle scouting report: "That Jeff runs like a deer. Unfortunately, he also hits AND throws like one." I am Venus DeMilo - NO ARM! I can play like a big leaguer, I can field like Luzinski, run like Lombardi. The secret to managing is keeping the ones who hate you away from the undecided ones. I am a triumph of quantity over quality. I'm almost useful, every village needs an idiot.

I know Sandy Koufax saw a no-hitter in four straight years since he threw them. He saw the closing of Ebbets Field and the Los Angeles Coliseum.

Ed VArgo fits all of it. He is the only umpire to call a no-hitter in three straight seasons. Was the umpire for the last game at Ebbets and Forbes Field. Was the ump when Hank Aaron tied Babe Ruth's home run record, and he ejected a pitcher for only the second time in history for throwing a spitball.

KC, that's exactly what I was thinking -- Sandy and 40,000 of his closest friends were the answer to that part. Still, it was tough for Ubi to come up with a verb other than saw that wouldn't give away that it was an umpire.

Ubiqu, was Vargo behind the plate on all three? Seems to me that -- even if it was Koufax pitching -- there's something suspicious about the strike zone of an ump who calls three no-nos in as many years.
sigpicIt's not whether you fall -- everyone does -- but how you come out of the fall that counts.

Actually upon closer inspection he called two no hitters and was the third base umpire for the third one.

"participated" would have been a better choice.
