  • Pitcher with two hits in the same inning

Just a few minutes ago, Mets pitcher Chris Young collected two hits in the same inning. Who was the last pitcher before him to accomplish the feat? Does it happen relatively frequently?

Dizzy Dean got two hits in the third inning of Game 7 of the 1934 World Series. He doubled off Detroit's Elden Auker and scored the game's first run on Frankie Frisch's bases-loaded double. Later that inning, Dean singled to third off Chief Hogsett to drive in Bill DeLancey. St. Louis scored 7 times in that third inning and went on to an 11-0 win to take the Series.

Sorry, I should have specified that I was only looking at regular season games.

            Interesting list. Thanks DJC!

Look at that...at one point, six consecutive Hall of Famers accomplished the feat.

Not only that, but those six are the only current HOFers since 1950 to have done so (until when Maddux inevitably gets in, anyway). And Niekro's first hit was off his brother.

Both of Andy Benes' hits came against his brother.
