  • Crosstown Brother Rivalries

in 1966, Ken Boyer played for the Mets and Clete Boyer played across-town with the Yankees.

Has this happened before or since?

Are there any other brother combos that played in the same town in the same year for different teams?

How about brothers who played for different crosstown teams but in different years (excluding players who played for more than one team in a town e.g. the Dean brothers in St. Louis.)

In 1907, brothers Jim and Joe Delahanty played for the St. Louis Browns and Cardinals, respectively. However, I don't know if these games overlapped because Jim was traded after 33 games and Joe only played 7 games that year because it was his professional debut.

Fast forward to 1914, you may find this interesting: brothers Jim and Frank Delahanty played in for the same state. Jim played for the Brooklyn Tip-tops and Frank played for the Buffalo Buffeds. This is probably the only instance of this occurring in the Federal League.

In another instance of defunct leagues, Bill Gleason played from 1882-1887 in the American Association for the St. Louis Browns (the present day St. Louis Cardinals). From 1884-1885, his brother, Jack Gleason, played for the St. Louis Maroons of the Union Association (the Maroons became a National League team in 1885). This is the most fascinating one to me.

Jeff Weaver played for the Dodgers in 2009 and 2010 while Jered played for the Angels. I know some argue that the Angels are in Anaheim, but technically, their city name is given as "Los Angeles."
