  • Most games under .500

Strange coincidence here. The pitcher whose career record is the most games under .500 has the same last name as the position player who is the most career games under .500

What do you mean by position player who is the most career games under .500?

You must mean Milt Gaston and Cito Gaston.

Are you sure Cito is the correct answer? If so, how many losses does he have?

Cito Gaston's career games played W-L is 326-700, which is 374 games under.
Rusty Staub is the only guy I see that's even close 1318-1633 (-315).
Rusty incidentally holds the record for most losses.

If my math is correct, Frank J. Thomas is also 374 games under .500.

Tommy Dowd, Eddie Yost, Bob Johnson, Nate Colbert, Dick Siebert, Bill Sweeney, and Cy Williams are some other players in the running. I haven't crunched their numbers yet though.

Among players since 1919, Cy Williams holds the record for most games under 0.500 (465-899, 0.341, -434 G>.5). Among players whose careers began in 1919 or later, Elmer Valo holds the record (700-1099, 0.389, -399 G>.5). Just behind Valo are Gaston and Thomas.

Thanks for the info. I had a feeling my info was incomplete.
Does anyone know which position player is the most games over .500? From my limited info, it seems Jeter is close to 500 games over. Gehrig must have also been close to 500 games over.
As long as I'm asking, where can I research this online?
