  • Multiple blown saves?

Yesterday the Red Sox blew two saves in their game against the Tigers. I've seen this happen before, but does anybody know what the record for the most blown saves in one game is?

I assume that we'll have to start in the 1970's when the modern definition of the save began.

    Thanks for your help.

I don't know what the record is, but it's at least 4 (for one team).

Here is 5, for both teams.

The Mariners had tons of multiple blown saves back when they had Ayala & Charlton in their 'pen. Playing in the Kingdome didn't help either.
        WAR? Prove it!

while impressive, there is a flaw here in the definition of blown save. the first three blown saves came in the 6th, 7th and 8th innings. I'd think of these more as blown holds. It seems unfair to give a reliever a blown save when the manager had no intent to leave them in long enough to get the save.

In the Gee's original post, the Red Sox blew saves in the 9th and again in extra innings. I'd be interested in what the most blown saves were in the 9th or later - in situations where you were poised to win the game
