  • FOUR Strikes and You're Out: Positional OPS+

I'm a guy who has no problem continuing (copying) nifty ideas on this site (with permission, of course). With AstrosFan's blessing and all the fun people seemed to have with his thread, I hope to give this a go.

Rules are the same as the other thread's; one strike for an incorrect guess, FOUR strikes you're out (no longer eligible to guess, but feel free to post discussion). I chose four simply because there are more answers at stake. Hopefully this doesn't turn anyone off from the trivia. I will act as the monitor, but let's stick to the honor code, yes?

From 1951 to 2009, can you name all the players (and their year) with the best single season OPS+ for each position per decade? This excludes pitchers and includes DHs where applicable. For example, the 1920s right fielder with the highest single season OPS+ was Babe Ruth in 1920 with 255. A player must have played at least 50% of games at a position during the season as well as be qualified for the batting title.

Do we have to know the OPS+ of the player?

Then I'll kick things off with a guess for Ted Williams 1957 for left field.

For what it's worth, I tried coming up with all of them upon making this quiz. After a few hours of deliberation, I checked my answers and ended up with 17/52, almost one third. So hopefully the four strikes is justified.

I thought of another 3 strikes quiz possibility: top 20 rookie WAR. If someone else wants to research it, or a variation, that's fine, otherwise I'll try to get to it later.
