  • who am I? 3 hints

    As a shortstop, I:

    1) was five times among the league's top 3 in HR,

    2) was five times among the league's top 3 in assists, and

    3) am almost entirely ignored on BBF.

    I must be _____________________.

    Arky Vaughan?
"No matter how great you were once upon a time — the years go by, and men forget,” - W. A. Phelon in Baseball Magazine in 1915. “Ross Barnes, forty years ago, was as great as Cobb or Wagner ever dared to be. Had scores been kept then as now, he would have seemed incomparably marvelous.”

I would think it's a early century player. Maybe Joe Tinker.

sounds likely. one of those guys from back when 5-6 HR would put you among the league leaders. but no, it's ...

Yeah I suppose you really dont hear too much about Banks on here. I guess because i'm from Chicago I hear about him alot more so I figured it was somebody else.

oh, you can't miss hearing about Ernie in Chicago - they even named a street after him

but you'd have a hard time finding his name in any BBF discussion of the greatest shortstops ever.

I missed your post when I guessed Stephens, but looking him up he was certainly close to meeting the criteria. Just a couple of home runs away in either 1948 or 1950,

After I guessed Stephens I looked his stats up and could see he wasn`t the right answer. But I found it uncanny how close he came to fitting the bill.Banks broke Stephens record for most HR for a SS in one season(long since passed).Ernie used a Vern Stephens LS model bat(S2)for most of his career.
