Just occurred to me that Jose Reyes has now been part of two different home teams christening new stadiums.

Both much maligned but that's for another part of this site! But he was a Met in 2009 when Citi Field opened, and a Marlin for Opening Day at the Marlins new stadium.

Made me wonder whom else is in that club. Is it larger now due to the rise of excessive player movement?

BTW, this only counts for players that were on the roster the day their stadiums opened, not a player that had been acquired later in that season.

Here are two interesting items concerning new ballparks. Barry Larkin was the first batter ever at PNC Park and Miller Park. He did this just a few days apart back in 2001. Mark Mulder hit the only home run of his career in the first game of Busch Stadium III in 2006.

Should it only count if a team that previously existed moved into a ballpark that was brand new at the time?

What about expansion teams who debuted with brand new stadiums like the Diamondbacks?

What if a team moved to a ballpark that they were now sharing with another team, like the Yankees in the Polo Grounds, or the Phillies in Shibe Park?

What about teams playing their first games in stadiums that were previously used by other major league clubs (Mets in the Polo Grounds, Brewers in County Stadium) minor league clubs (Colt Stadium, LA Wrigley Field, Seals Stadium) or for other sports (Mile High Stadium, Joe Robbie Stadium)?

Tropicana Field had been around for several years before the Devil Rays finally moved in, so it wasn't exactly brand new when it finally had a team playing in it. Would an original member of the D-Rays count?

Atlanta’s Turner Field against Chicago’s Kevin Foster on April 4, 1997, and Milwaukee’s Miller Park against Jeff D’Amico on April 6, 2001.

He also got the last hit at Milwaukee’s County Stadium on September 28, 2000, an eighth-inning infield single against Juan Acevedo.

Safeco Field debuted on July 15, 1999. One of the then-Mariners was Jose Mesa, who was also part of the Orioles when Oriole Park at Camden Yards debuted, and the Indians when Jacobs Field debuted.
