  • Every Team Ever

    Can we name every team ever to be in existence since 1876 (according to BBRef)? No cheating, and don't list like 40 teams at one time. Give everyone a chance. If a team has merely changed its location name (i.e. Marlins), all locations and name variants must be given. I will give the current 30 teams (31 including my Marlins example). Years in existence or league are not necessary. I only need the location and name. Be warned: some franchises have had the same name and location, but I will count all of them.

    No color= current team
    Red= Relocated
    Blue= Name Variant
    Green= Defunct
    Purple=Defunct, relocated team
    Teal=Defunct name variant

        The Forest Citys folded in 1872. According to BBRef, the Trolley Dodgers of the American Association played under four different names, none of them the "Trolley Dodgers." Also, there was no Brooklyn Hartfords, but the Hartfords of Brooklyn (I'll still give it to ya). There are a few more Brooklyn team names, including one that made two 20th century World Series.

          The Forest Citys that I mentioned were a different team than the one you mentioned. They ultimately became the Cleveland Blues

          Different team names.

          Cleveland Blues (1901)
          Cleveland Bluebirds (1902)
          Cleveland Bronchos (1902)
          Cleveland Naps (1903-1914)

          Brooklyn Bridegrooms (AA)
          Brooklyn Robins (NL) (1913-1931)

          With the informality of team names that was happening before about 1930 BBRef may be different than other sources.

            That's what I'm going by because it is the only definitive source and I simply do not know all of them. BBRef has the 1879-1884 NL Cleveland team as the Cleveland Blues, a different one from the 1887-1888 AA counterpart. I'll just use that.

              Whoever takes on National League Boston or Cincinnati will have a big challange.

                There's a lot of tough ones because teams went back and forth with certain names each lasting brief perioids. I actually find the defunct ones to be easier, though I'm familiar with the NL Boston ones.

                  The Hartford Dark Blues (NL 1876) relocated to Brooklyn for one season and disbanded after the 1877 season.

                    I think the defunct are generall easier too, especially for teams that only lasted a season or two.
