In Ryan's debut game, http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1...110NYN1966.htm, his second strikeout victim was Eddie Mathews, whose career began in 1952. Ryan has also struck out Omar Vizquel, who is still an active player. Other than Satchel Paige, can any other pitcher claim such a huge range of strikeout victims?

Interestingly enough, Retrosheet doesn't show Ryan's matchups with Mathews or with Willie Mays, who I thought might have been the player with the earliest career that Ryan had faced. Looking up individual game data, I found out that he never did strike out Willie Mays, or for that matter, never faced Robin Roberts, who is the only other pre-Mays player that I think Ryan might have struck out.
