Statistical Oddity that didn't quite Happen

Last night Roy Halladay needed to strikeout out four batters to reaching 2,000 career pitching Strikeouts, while Alex Rodriguez entered yesterday's NYY game in Seattle with 1,999 hitting strikeouts. Neither milestone was reached. Halladay had to settle fot three stikeouts and now has 1,999 Ks. A-Rod avoided striking out to remain at 1,999 strikeouts. Seems like had those milestones been reached (2,000 Ks for a pitcher and 2,000 Ks for a hitter) on the same day, that it would surely have been a first.
Halladay should soon become the 67th pitcher in history to reach 2,000 strikeouts. A-Rod, perhaps as early as tonight, will become just the fifth batter in MLB history to strikeout 2,000 times.
