                  this is quite the challenge older generations retired earlier but only produced a handful of 300 HR hitters

                  my obligatory guess is Rogers Hornsby

                    Hornsby played for 23 seasons so he would have needed to start his MLB career at the age of 10 :o

                      I knew I should have added the modifier outlandish. Yet Hornsby is considered a short career guy when his name comes up in the top 10 etc. lists.

                          I think I know one but for some reason can't remember his name. He was the last power-hitting 3B for the Angels... played from late-90s thru early 00s with them.

                              Troy Glaus is correct. I don't know if he's officially retired yet, but he hasn't played a game since 2010 so I included him.
