    trucks most likely just got back from the war

    he had no games in 1944 and his only start in 1945 was on sept 30

    yes. The last one to do it was Yovani Gallardo in 2008 (NLDS). The only other player I can find that did it was Virgil Trucks in the 1945 world series, or if you include pre-1901, Jimmy Ryan in 1886
