  • More RBI than Games Played

It happened 32 times between 1921-1940, but since 1940, only nine players have had a single season with more RBI than games played (minimum 100 games). Name the nine players and the seasons. Two of the nine players did it twice:

    1. George Brett 1980
    2. Manny Ramirez 1999, 2000
    3. Jeff Bagwell 1994
    4. Ted Williams 1949
    5. Juan Gonzalez 1996, 1998
    6. Joe Dimaggio 1948
    7. Vern Stephens 1949
    8. Kirby Puckett 1994
    9. Walt Dropo 1950

    George Brett, 1980
    Manny Ramirez, 1999
    Sammy Sosa 1998
    Tejada 2002
    Bagwell 1994

These are educated guesses here. I probably have the years messed up(except Brett).

      Juan Gonzales: '96 and '98

I know that Brett, Ramirez and Bagwell are right so that means there could be up to 4 left.

Somebody had 155 or 159. Was it Tommy Davis? '61 maybe?

Sammy Sosa in 2001. He would have also done it in 1998 but did not get an RBI in the Cubs one-game playoff game against the Giants. Finished wiht 159 RBI in 160 games.

Somebody else had 159 that year for Boston too.

That would be Vern Stephens. He and Williams tied that season with 159.

                              That's right.

I also remember that Boston had 2 guys with 144 in the same season and neither one was Williams.
