    Brandon Webb

    After watching Webb pitch a few times, and listening to each start on the radio, I'm beginning to think Webb is the best pitcher in baseball right now. He's got a rubber arm like Livan Hernandez, the nastiest sink in the majors, and one of the best supporting casts possible.

    So I'm gonna be bold ... I'm predicting 25 wins for Webb this season. I think his team is that good, and he's that good of a pitcher.

    Yea, since 2005 Webb has been getting better and better. His K's have increased while his BB's have decreased and his ERA just keeps getting lower. He's making noise now, but I think he's been flying under the radar for most of his career. Even after winning the Cy Young in '06, I don't think he got enough credit and people just thought he couldn't continue having that success.

            Webb and Arizona are supposedly talking about an extension.

              I don't know that Webb is the best but over the past five plus years he is definitely in the conversation. Maybe not quite Santana, but very very close.

                  Over the past 5 years? I would put Webb squarley second. Definately a step over the injury-prone Holliday and Peavy, and over Oswalt too.

                    Cy Young

                    Here for some well thought out debate. I will be the first to admit that the Cy Young is probably Webb's to lose. Like any award, its a popularity contest and he has won in the past, 2006 and came in second last year. However, i believe that Edinson Volquez of the Reds has actually been the best pitcher in the NL so far this year. Can he hold it up through an entire season? That remains to be seen. I'm pretty confident that Webb will continue to post wins and quality appearances. But, if the season ends and Volquez ERA is a run better then Webb's and Webb has 5-7 more wins, who gets the nod?

                      Edinson Volquez has probably moved ahead of Webb for now and Zambrano and Lincecum are right there. Could be a very interesting race.

                        I agree with the other two names you threw in there. I also think the Cy Young is less effected by the teams standing as the MVP is. With the MVP you always hear, well i didnt vote for Player A because his team wasnt in the race. In the Cy Young race, being on a bad team doesnt hurt you as much and some voters view it as winning IN SPITE of the team the hurler is on. Will definately be an interesting race.

                            The National League has some of the best pitchers around - Edinson Volquez, Brandon Webb, Carlos Zambrano, Jake Peavy, Tim Lincecum - and I could probably keep mentioning names. I think that if Brandon Webb isn't the best pitcher, which, he probably is, he is for sure in second place. He gives quality starts each time out, and rarely gives up runs that the Diamondbacks can't make up. He's got one of the best supporting casts out there, I'd rank it second to only Zambrano and his Chicago Cubs (That was a homer-esque selection, and I do apologize) and can get the outs when he wants to with that terrific sinker.

                            25 wins isn't out of the question. It's extremely difficult to do if you ask me, but he's at 11 right now and we aren't even at the All Star Break. I'm going to have to agree with you on him reaching 25 wins, but I'm not sold immediately on him winning the Cy Young Award.

                              I guess the Cubs couldnt make up the runs when he gave up the 3 run homer to Kemp last week, haha. In any case, if Webb wins 25 games, he WILL win the Cy Young.
