      • I've been doing a lot of reading lately. Maybe it's just because I'm anxiously awaiting the season to start (and I know I'm not the only one). Here's what I've come across more than once or twice:

        1. The favorites are the Mets and Phillies this year.
        2. Braves are the sleeper/outside chance of a WC/divisional title.
        3. Braves had the best offseason out of all NL East teams.
        4. If this & if that = success. I think we all know where the questions are for this team.
        5. We have one of the best bullpens in the NL and arguably top 10 in the majors. I'd say we have the top five, but I'm just listing what I've read.
        6. Andruw will be having a great year, and subsequently will be leaving us in 2008.
        7. Liberty Media Corp seemingly isn't going to increase the payroll.
        8. Nobody misses Jorge Sosa.

I threw #8 in there for fun, because I hate that guy.

Anyway. Here's to the quiet that is February and hopefully April will be here sooner than expected.

        Go Braves!

And now the Mets have Jorge Sosa because of their own pitching woes. Poetic justice.

I disagree with number two. I don't think anybody is giving the Braves a chance except Lindy's and us.

          • Jimmy Rollins feels the Phillies are the team to beat in the NL East, but I can't agree because the Mets are better than the Phils even with their mediocre bullpen.

I am thrilled that they got Sosa. If El Duque's cortisone shots can't stop the arthritis pains, I hope they make Sosa the 5th starter. Time for some walk-off shots on that turd.

90% of prediction & breakdowns of the NL East have the Braves as a sleeper/outside chance: from mlb.com to ESPN to sportingnews.com.

              • It's not like the Braves have never been picked against. The last 3 or 4 years of the streak, the Mets or the Phillies were mostly projected above the Braves. But, every year they rose to the occasion and got the job done.

Except last year. But that is true. Back in 2001, people were looking for the Braves to fail and had to wait 6 seasons for that to happen.
