It's like the third time you've done this, dude. :P

    C - Catchers are fine

1B - I'd argue at this point that Freeman deserves to start because of the quality of play bit in Tenney's time despite his longevity.

2B - I'd much rather take Glenn Hubbard instead of Giles.

3B - Chipper starts instead of Mathews just because.

    SS - No complaints here

LF - I'm going to break ranks and recommend Rico Carty instead. .Berger spent most of his Braves time in center. Carty hit 317/.388/.496 in 3098 PAs in an offensively-deflated era. Also won a batting title in 1970.

    CF - No complaints.

RF - Don't think we really have a problem here. You can argue David Justice and be right too, but I'll stick with Holmes.

SP - The five guys that should be there, it's cut and dry.

RP - No problems there either.

Normally, I would agree, but in a thing like this? It's apples and oranges. There wasn't a lot of slugging going on in Tenney's day.

Probably because guys were throwing underhand.

I can't convince myself to take 19th century baseball seriously. Cap Anson probably couldn't touch an 80 mile per hour fastball /s

They weren't probably throwing very hard for Adcock either. Okay, let's try to make a fielder roster without them and see if it's any better.

            C - Torre, Crandall
            1B - Freeman, Adcock
            2B - Hubbard, Giles (eh)
            SS - Logan, Simmons
            LF - Carty
            CF - Jones, Murphy
RF - Aaron, Holmes (or Justice?)

SP - Spahn, Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Niekro
RP - Camp, Kimbrel, Bedrosian, Garber, Wohlers

Surpised you both considered Crandall over McCann. Crandall was much better defensively but McCann was a much better hitter, and has pitch framing data supporting his case.

Certainly is a better option these days. Yeah, I think you're right, it's about time for him to crack it. And who knows, maybe he'll come back for another season some day.

I've heard in local circles that he wants to retire as a Brave, especially since he got his ring.

That at least would mean that he signs a deal just to do that.

Well, not one of those silly 1-day contracts that no one remembers. He actually wants to play. I'm thinking after this year when his contract expires.

Fair enough. How is that non-19th century player list, with McCann in place of Crandall?

What do you mean? Do you want me to create a roster? I can.

Nah, I already put one up there:

                            C - Torre, McCann

Fun facts about Marcus Giles: he hit 37 home runs in single-A in 1998. In 2003, he posted a 7.8 WAR, which was higher than any mark put up by his brother, Brian Giles who was no slouch himself.

He was a really solid player who mysteriously forgot how to hit and was out of baseball by age 29.
