  • Braves Franchise Through the Years

Just for fun, here's a batting chart of the Braves Franchise from the 1901 Beaneaters to the 2018 Braves. For an explanation of how to interpret the chart, and to see the original chart and other player, team and league charts, go to http://www.offenseratio.altervista.org/charts.htm

Well that proves up to that point that the best offense the Braves had in those years was 2003.

This year, the Braves offense is off that chart. It's about where the H is in Franchise History.

        Here's Hank Aaron's career, year-by-year

SamtheBravesFan - you are correct on both accounts. 2003 was the Braves best year for Runs Per Game (5.6 RPG, they led the league also), including the past 5 years (and excluding years prior to 1901). To this point this year, the team is at 5.4 RPG.

The chart sort of downplays what Hank did in 1959: league leader in average and slugging with a .355/.401/.636 line, league-leading 233 hits, 46 doubles, 7 triples, 39 homers. Really doesn't get much better than that.

Edit: Upon closer inspection, maybe it doesn't, that's what the OR lines are for. It puts that season on par with his 1969 one.

SamtheBravesFan : precisely correct! Any season with OR (base-out ratio) greater than 1.000 is a stellar season. A lineup consisting of Hank Aaron in all 9 spots would have averaged almost 8.5 runs per game. (Sorry about the curve headers, need to correct that, the dark line is 1.000). (fixed it)

I wish the chart was updated for seasons past 2013, though.

Great! WHat'll you do when the chart-breaking 2019 season finishes?
