  • Sam's Three Stars, 2020 Season

One of these years, I'm going to actually complete this from beginning to end. I should have done it last year, but what are you gonna do?

    BRAVES 5, ORIOLES 0

    W - Felix Hernandez (1-0, 0.00)
    L - Chandler Shepherd (0-1, 13.50)

Good Days - Eight different Braves had hits (all singles) and four different Braves had RBIs and two (Inciarte and Peter O'Brien) collected sac flies to get them. The staff pitched a shutout with Felix Hernandez, Chad Rusin and Tucker Davidson all going two innings each. Chad Sobotka struck out three in his inning of work. The team had 11 strikeouts total with just four singles allowed.

Not So Good Days - There were a few 0-2 days and Yonder Alonso went 0-3 at DH. Grant Dayton sort of labored through his inning, but he emerged unscathed. Sobotka had to pitch around a walk, stolen base and passed ball by Shea Langeliers.

    TIGERS 5, BRAVES 1

    W - Ivan Nova (1-0, 0.00)
    L - Bryse Wilson (0-1, 9.00)

Good Days - Luke Jackson, Huascar Ynoa and Patrick Weigel didn't allow any runs in their innings of work, though Jackson was his usual tightrope-walking self (in mid-season form already!). Four Braves had hits and Freddie Freeman had a sac fly for the team's only RBI. Three players had stolen bases.

Not So Good Days - A lot of 0-2 days in the box score as 11 Braves hitters tallied that. Bryse Wilson allowed two runs in two innings of work and Josh Tomlin, Kyler Muller and Jorge De La Cruz allowed one run each.

      BLUE JAYS 4, BRAVES 3

      W - Ken Giles (1-0, 0.00)
      L - Ian Anderson (0-1, 13.50)
      S - Bryan Baker (1, 0.00)

Good Days - Dansby Swanson had the team's first two-hit day of the spring and Drew Waters had the first two-RBI day with a two-run single. Three other Braves had hits. After Ian Anderson, the Braves had 4 1/3 innings of shutout ball including 1 1/3 by Tyler Matzek, who prevented further scoring after Ian Anderson left. Aside from allowing a runner to score, Jose Manuel Fernandez prevented further runs than that in 1 2/3 innings.

Not So Good Days - Max Fried walked two and gave up three hits, lasting just a third of an inning and allowing two runs to score. Fernandez inherited a runner and allowed him to score, accounting for the third. Anderson walked two and allowed two hits in 2/3 of an inning, taking the loss. Yonder Alonso went 0-3 and the Braves' catchers Alex Jackson and Carlos Martinez combined to go 0-4.
