  • My proposed new name for the Braves

While the Braves' identity has largely deemphasized the Native American elements over the past few decades, I still prefer a complete abandonment of them.

I have a creative solution for that. The Braves ownership could acquire the rights to the name, logos, and colors of the former NHL team Atlanta Thrashers. The name, logos, and colors would be used almost verbatim, the only change being a modification of the hockey stick in the main Thrashers logo into a baseball bat.

This is similar to my proposal for the Cleveland Indians to recycle the "Barons" name from several hockey teams that played there in the past, as well as the adoption of the "Pelicans" name, previously used in baseball, by the NBA team in New Orleans.
The playoffs should expand eventually, but only if MLB itself expands.

I think Thrashers would be way too aggressive a name for an MLB team.
    Put it in the books.

Seems that way but the name would actually refer to the brown thrasher, Georgia's state bird, which was also the case when the NHL Thrashers existed. The original Thrashers logo featured the bird. As I said, it would be used by the baseball team, but modifying the hockey stick in the original logo to a baseball bat.

Atlanta's two other major league teams, the Falcons and Hawks, likewise have names and logos referring to birds.

Huh, that's something I would not have guessed. I definitely take back my initial reaction.

          How about the "Larrys".

Yeah just stick with Braves. Nothing wrong with it.

The George Floyd Protests have made it even more urgent for Atlanta to remove the remaining traces of its Native American identity from their team.

Usurping the Thrashers name from the former NHL team would mean that all of Atlanta's teams would be named after birds (Falcons, Hawks).

                  http://www.nhluniforms.com/Thrashers/Thrashers.html

The NHL Thrashers had four base designs for jerseys in their 11-season history in the city.

They would be used as the basis for some of the alternate uniforms used by the baseball team upon assuming the Thrashers identity. There would also be Capitol Copper and Peachtree Gold alternates.
The playoffs should expand eventually, but only if MLB itself expands.

I mean, the uniforms that the renamed team could have would look cooler than the ones the team currently has now.

Even though the Braves said they don't want to abandon that name, they have before.

From 1936-40, while in Boston, they were the Bees.

Rob Manfred could take things further and threaten sanctions against the Braves if they did not change their name.

I really don't see how the Braves is offensive. Can a person even use Braves, bravery, bravado or brave as an insult when trying to belittle someone?

However, I can see Rob Manfred, who is a garbage commissioner, acting on woke idiocracy.
