  • Bullpen Time

The Braves will be carrying 7 relievers. I can pinpoint 5 of them.

    Chris Reitsma
    Oscar Villareal
    Joey Devine
Anthony Lerew (see thread "Closing...Who's Who?")
    Blaine Boyer

The first 4 could all be closer. The next part of the pen will come down to the leftys'. 2 of them to be exact. The Braves have 3 of which to choose from.

    John Foster
    Mike Remlinger
    Macay McBride

Last year, Foster was one of our most consistant relievers. I know that isn't saying much, but at times he was extremely dominent. But he did struggle a bit much against rightys.

Mike Remlinger, probably the most dominant reliever in Braves history, barely edging out Smoltz, is trying to rejuvenate his career. He sounds confident, and braves reports are confident in the way he is pitching. As always Mike is more effective against righties than leftys.

Macay McBride, like Foster, has a bit of trouble facing rightys'. However, he does have the stuff to be a future closer. He is effective in pressure situations which is always good to have in your bullpen.

If it was up to me ,I would eliminate Foster. I would want as less people as possible from last year's bullpen to carry over to this years. Just to get the bad taste from out of it's mouth.

Is Lerew actually going to be the Brave's closer, or are you just saying that he'd be the best closer out of the current group of relievers?

I'm saying that's who I'd stick as the closer for now.

He may have performed well in Richmond, but what has he shown Bobby in the majors against major league hitters. Closing is a high pressure situation and Lerew hasn't shown he can do it, I would go with Chris Reitsma.
