I wanted to know who has impressed you guys during Spring Training this year?

    My guys are.

Jair Jurrjens - I think he has jumped over Chuck James right now and it is his job to lose right now. He has really impressed me with his mindset of pitching to contact so he can go long into games. He should start the season as the number 5 starter in the rotation with his performance thus far.

Chris Resop - His stats are average but he has a live arm. Yesterday Dave O'Brien said Resop hit 99 twice and was throwing real heat up there. I didn't think Resop had a chance to make the team but if he can show a little bit more control he could actually make the team.

Jordan Schafer - Watching this kid play makes me even more excited then before. Schafer has great speed and a good arm. He may need a little more polish but I still wouldn't be against him actually being in the Majors on day 1 and maybe platooning with Diaz.

Tyler Flowers - Have only seen him play in some of the games online but I keep reading about him more and more. He has impressed Bobby with what is said to be a very big bat where he has hit monster shots. His ability to play both 1st and catcher could make him a very important player in the future.

Joe Borchard - Every single time I see him play he is hitting doubles. I thought Borchard was going to be a good body to have in the minors but he has impressed me thus far. Borchard likely won't make the team but if someone were to get injured in the outfield I wouldn't be shocked to see Borchard be the first guy called up.

I am impressed by the return of Javy Lopez. I think that even if he does not get the backup job to McCann, he has definitely exceeded my expectations. He gives the team more options at the position. His first at bat of the spring home run was impressive. Even if he doesn't make the 40 man roster, it has been nice seeing him around again.

The other players I would greatly enjoy seeing regularly during the season are Jurrjens and Schafer. I would also like to see how Schreiber does in the future. I can see him becoming a very good player.

definitely, jurrigens. i think he will be in the rotation this year at well. At least as part-time role for james/hampton if they cannot go and maybe longer. He has really separated himself from reyes too, who I thought looked good last year.

I know this may be a cop-out, but i am gonna say escobar too. I mean yea he played a fair amount last year, but he's making it the departure of edgar alot easier(yes, i know it's early).

Purebaseballfan, I also agree with you about borchard. I hadn't even heard of the guy before this spring. Also, like javy coming back, as well. Good leadership and still has some pop in his bat.

I like Schafer too, but there's no way he should be in Atlanta anytime soon. I expect to see him in the Southern League when I make my trip out that way in May.

Yep, that's where he should be.

Jurrjens is insane. I had no idea that he was that good. Schafer is good, but I agree unless there is an injury I wouldn't expect to see him in the lineup anytime soon. I think though Kotsay will be short term until they can get Schafer ready for the bigs.

I feel the same way about Escobar. The only thing I want to add is that I was hoping he would fill the hole at short as soon as I hear Renteria was traded.

I agree that Schafer should be in the minors. But I am very impressed with his play and think that he should be at the top of the list for replacements.

Maybe I have been out of the loop. I like to think that I keep up with Braves baseball, but why is Chuck James making his first start tomorrow? I thought it was almost guaranteed he would make the 5th spot in the rotation. But Jurrjens is definitely impressing me.

You missed something pretty important then. James has a rotator cuff problem and has been dealing with it this spring. Word is that he pitched with it for a good amount of 2006 which is why he did so poorly.

Not quite sure how I missed that one. I just hadn't heard anything about it this spring. Probably because all the focus is on Smoltz, Glavine, and Hampton.

I wish Jeff Bennet wouldn't have gotten sick and could have pitched a few more games this spring so he could have a chance to show his stuff. From what I saw last season he has some really good stuff.

He got pounded his last time out, I think. He's long relief material, but that's about it.

Looks like there is a good chance that Thorman might be traded (as well as Pena possibly) due to the amount of interest they are getting since they are out of options.
"I never thought home runs were all that exciting. I still think the triple is the most exciting thing in baseball. To me, a triple is like a guy taking the ball on his 1-yard line and running 99 yards for a touchdown." -Hank Aaron

I think Thorman and Pena both could be let go very cheaply and the Braves would not miss a beat.
