  • Superstitious? .500 season coming on?

I know there is still a chance to reach .500 for the 1st month of the season...but I am always scared of another 2005 June happening to us.

With our aged and injured starting staff and injured and inexperienced bullpen...is it wrong for me to worry about another .500 season with an 85+ Million payroll?

After all, there is one MLB ballplayer that makes more than the entire Florida Marlins payroll...the same Marlins that are leading what is, arguably, the most competitive division in the NL...(the NL West is pretty damn tough too!)

Folks, we are 5 and 9 overall and 2 and 7 on the road...and 0 and 7 in one run games.

People are hurt, people will come back, ...Tex will start hitting, ...But with Philly, the Metropolitans, and the Marlins (who have astounded me btw) ...have we lost too much ground?

No one has ever made the post-season after starting 0 and 5...but the Tigers made it to 0 and 5...and they also went to 0 and 7...with perhaps the most dominating lineup in the game today...(some argue in the entire history of the game.)

So, have we lost too much ground...or do I need to wear my UT Vols shorts under my pants? Should Glavine brush his teeth and chew licorice between every inning? Should the Bravos only eat chicken on the day of the game? Should we have the Braves spit in Big Papi's batting glove and have him pat them on the back? Should all Bravos avoid stepping on the foul lines when leaving and entering the dugout?...should they not change their socks?

Yep. If the team is constantly having to pick up for someone thats hurt all season then we'll be in trouble. How many times will we see Jeff Bennett out there on a spur of the moment? I know its early, but I'm not really liking the health issues so far.

I'm more worried about the bullpen than our starters. For some reason I think the Soriano injury goes a little deeper than whats known. I hope I'm wrong. I hate to see Moylan go down, hopefully its not as bad as what their saying.

Possibly a UCL injury on Moylan...Dr. Andrews has confirmed that Atlanta Doctors initial reports.

He will be re-evaluated soon, ...but it doesnt look good right now.

So what's ultimately the problem? The Braves aren't going to go down the toilet if their setup man/closer is going to miss the rest of the season. It's not a good thing, of course, but it's not the end of the world. Someone else could step up, the offense could play better to off-set the bullpen's loss. A lot of things can happen.

apparently the rays might have some arms for sale. not sure if there is anyone we could get cheaply there. However, gonzo should be back late may they are saying now, so he would kinda fill one of the holes and I have been impressed with campillo so far.

I wouldn't back on significant success from gonzalez that early on though. Typically, it takes at least a month of playing time to recover from that type of surgery. Manny Acosta's a scary thought going into late innings, frankly, I wish Ascanio and Yates were still around. I guess Ascanio wasn't a bad idea, as Ohman does have a lot of value as a LOOGY, but I'd take a late-inning guy over a LOOGY at this point in time.
