  • Bonds in Atlanta?

    Well, what are the possibilities?

"Jeff Borris (Bonds' agent) said no team has made any kind of offer to Bonds, even at the league minimum. Borris might not take $400K for Bonds, but he'd listen." ...this courtesy of MLBTradeRumors.com

    He'd listen??

Barry Bonds is a tragedy. Had he not ever been implicated in the PED's phenomenon in the last decade...hell, had he not even came within 150 HR's of Hanks record...I would still regard Barry as one of the best 3 offensive players to have ever played the game. (The only 400/400 guy in history...check that, the only 500/500 guy in history...yeah, I know his SB days are behind him)

Having said that, I know clubhouses dont want to deal with the negative publicity, the constant questions, the supposed lack of integrity by any team that would sign him...the inevitable indictment.

But, MLB minimum for this kind of production? (He has made comments to suggest that he would even be willing to play in Japan)

I am not necessarily saying that the Braves will pick up on this, probably not.

    ...but some other team will...eventually.

    Thoughts? :noidea

Signing the man who broke Hank Aaron's record with the alledged help of PEDs would send a horrible message. Not only is Bonds a bad teammate, it's a PR disaster.

Funny that this is brought up. I remember making a thread about bringing Bonds to Atlanta. But, I think we can't help his attitude, he's on a different level from Mondesi, Sheffield, and Bonilla.

It wouldn't happen because of the reasons previously mentioned. The media would be pestering Hank Aaron for photo ops with Barry. Barry would disrespect mgmt, teammates, etc. just like he has in the past.

Personally, it would be great if no team signed him. What Barry wants more than anything is a WS ring. I bet he's thinking some team will sign him during a playoff push. More than likely an AL team. I hope that is not the case, but in reality I can see someone doing that.

I've always viewed the Braves to be a much wiser franchise than that, and I really don't believe they'd waste their time on a guy like Bonds. Not only that, but they still have to worry about current contractual obligations, as well as potentially re-signing Teixeira. I simply don't think they'd be able to afford him.

For the above reasons, I can't see it happening. I really can't see Bonds going anywhere other than American League anyway, if he's looking for legitimate playing time.

No, I havent forgotten. Nor have I forgot how good a teammate Jeff Kent is.

You hear one liners from Bonds former teammates...saying how good he was...its all BS.

Anyone who can read between the lines knows what these cats have had to go thru playing with Bonds.

He is pretty much an SOB.

But, how high can he hang his nose in a Braves clubhouse? Along with Glavine, Smoltz, Chipper, Cox....common??

BTW, that was a great point you made earlier about it being a PR disaster. Wow, the media would eat that up.

We don't need Bonds. Diaz is getting hot right now, and Blanco continues to impress. We have those two guys for left field and they are doing a great job. This offense is good, and I don't think Bonds wants to come off the bench. But, like I said we have Blanco and others off the bench. What we need is some bullpen health--Gonzales, Soriano, and Moylan so that we have a good bullpen once again.

Moylan's pretty much out for the season, I think.

exactly! where would be play? his only hope is DH and there is no DH in the NL. so what's a number lower than zero? that's what chance this has.

and anderson and lillibridge in waiting.

and for the bullpen, yea i am not getting my hopes up for moylan yet. However, I think campillo has been pretty good and should be a hold pitcher when the pen gets straightened out. ring, resop and haven't been too good.

I'd love to see Bonds in a Braves uniform... a Danville Braves uniform as a mascot. He can sell hot dogs to people in the stands. Hey, at least you know they'll be "juicy."
