  • I tell you those windy days at Wrigley sure make for some wacky games. You don't see balls carry like that even in Colorado!

Hopefully Retisma's performance this time will finally shoehorn him out of the closer role and get someone else in there.

    • My question is how can they put "Reitsma sucks once again" on the Braves official website? Wow! That just about sums up what we feel about Chris Reitsma.

Yesterday's game...Ho looked liked he was in top form. He made some great plays covering 1B, especially the one-handed catch from Jordan. Got a little too exciting in the 9th.

Have to capitalize against teams that are struggling, like the Cubs. They are really struggling in run production and with Smotzie on the mound....hopefully that trend will continue today.

        Let's break out the brooms!

That 'Reitsma sucks once again' line did crack me UP!

For all it means the fantasyguru is finally getting around to recommending picking up someone other then Reitsma if you want saves from the Braves. I mention it only because the guy is normally rather accurate about predicting when slumping players or horrible closers finally hit the chopping block.

So hopefully things go like they normally do and Cox starts using somebody else as closer (instead of trying Reitsma every other game). A betting man would probably put his money on Ken Ray getting the first shot at it.

I'm just surprised things have gone on like this for so long.

            • Braves down 12 to 5

That east to west plane ride, combined with a early day game seemed to have done the Braves' in for the first game against the Dodgers. Everyone looked tired out there to me. Three errors in the first innings says alot about how the team was playing, surprised no one fell asleep out there.

Thomson got blasted by a few nasty little bloop hits at the wrong time. Later the Braves almost pulled it back when it was 8 to 5, but the Dodgers knocked up the bullpen for 4 more runs.

Maybe a good nights sleep will help out the next game. Let the guys sleep in a bit Bobby

              • Andruw Jones?

So what was the deal on Monday? I see the box score and see Jones started the game in Center and then gets pulled after 1 AB. I could not find anything that says why he was pulled until today, and I read he was pulled for making errors in the field. I go back and look at the box score and recap and I see Renteria, C. Jones and Francoeur all had errors, but I still see nothing about A. Jones. So what gives? did Cox pull Andruw for some percieved "error" in the field? If he did, why not make this a more common practice with other players? I did not see the game, but the whole thing seems odd to me. Can someone who saw the game explaimn it to me?
I signed with the Milwaukee Braves for three-thousand dollars. That bothered my dad at the time because he didn't have that kind of dough. But he eventually scraped it up.~Bob Uecker

Yeah it was pretty simple. Cox made a double switch so the pitcher's spot wouldn't be up so soon. And since the game was out of hand, he wanted to rest Andruw.:radio

Okay, looking at the box scorethat was the impression I got but cbssportsline made it sound as though Andruw Jones was pulled for making errors which just did not add up.

Yeah, he was very sound defensivly for the brief time he was in the game.

                      • Enough with the bullpen, Braves lose 8 to 3!!

Sosa cruised through a bit over 7 innings, he looked really good. Then in comes Remlinger, he gets 2 outs pretty much no problem.

                        Then this happens:

                        Top 8TH

                        B:4 S:1 O:2
                        Willy Aybar walks.

                        B:3 S:2 O:2
Andre Ethier singles on a ground ball to left fielder Ryan Langerhans. Nomar Garciaparra scores. Willy Aybar to 2nd.

                        B:0 S:0 O:2
Pitcher Change: Tyler Yates replaces Mike Remlinger, batting 9th.

                        B:3 S:2 O:2
Ramon Martinez singles on a line drive to right fielder Jeff Francoeur. Willy Aybar scores. Andre Ethier to 3rd. Ramon Martinez to 2nd on the throw.

So once again the bullpen meltsdown and loses the game. It was tied before, 3-3, but by the time it was all over the Dodgers had tacked on 5 more runs.

As you can see two of those hits came with 2 strikes, which makes it even more frustrating if possible.

                            • The Braves are up 9-2 in the home half of the 7th, last time I checked both Jones boys had 2 run homers. Todd Pratt has 2 RBI and Tim Hudson has 7 Ks. I'll post a review when the game ends.

                              • Braves win 9-3. Mets beat Arizona 1-0 in 13 innings, so no ground gained on them. The Phillies lost 3-2 to Washington, so the Braves are now in sole possession of second place.
Every passing hour brings the Solar System forty-three thousand miles closer to Globular Cluster M13 in Hercules -- and still there are some misfits who insist that there is no such thing as progress.
