  • Yates is terrible...Laroche is not a good bunter. You can't ask him to bunt, especially when he hitting well. That's just not smart play in my opinion. Why can't we go Ray, Baez, Wickman every game that we have a lead or tied in? It's not that hard lol. Yates and the others can't be trusted!

    • I'm quite tired of these journeyman relievers! It's time to get more guys like Baez and Wickman.

According to this ajc article, LaRoche took it upon himself to bunt: Cox/coaches never told him to bunt.

And yes, another bad outting by Yates. It seems he can only pitch well if we're losing, but if we're tied or winning he falls apart.

        • That was an interesting article. It seems like no one on the Braves agreed with Laroche's decision. I guess I'm about the only one who agreed with it. Well the game is getting underway and Prado is starting at second. With Smoltz pitching, we should be able to get back on track tonight.

          • Smoltz and Wickman combined for a 4 hit shutout tonight as the Braves blanked the Pirates 3-0. Wickman is now 9 for 9 in saves since being traded from Cleveland.

I actually agreed with LaRoche bunting. Had it been well executed, Langerhans' fly ball would have scored Frenchy. Oh well.

Great game tonight: Smoltz did everything a pitcher should/could do with his pitching, hitting (sac bunts) and fielding. I looked at probably pitchers for the next 2 games vs. the Pirates and a sweep looks feasible.

              Go Braves!

              • Yeah, we sure need to sweep this series. We are still 5 and a half games behind the Reds. We need to start making up ground. Smoltz was just awesome tonight. He had zip on his fastball and his slider was nasty. I especially liked the curveball that he threw to Jason Bay. Chipper is definitely uncomfortale batting right handed now. Hopefully, tomorrow's starter is a righty. Things are starting to look good. but 5 and a half games is hard to make up. However, I think we can do it if we keep playing well.

                • I've been waiting for prado for quite a while now. We definitely can sweep the pirates if we play well. Catch the REDS!

                  • Well, it's the same old story. They just pulled Baez out after blowing the lead. I'm still watching, but this is hard to take. Hopefully we'll come back in the bottom half of the inning.

                    • Today's game made me sick.

Visions of June dance in my head.

                      • Just when you feel good about the team after winning a few, Baez blows up again by walking batters. Gosh it was painful to sit there and watch one reliever after another fail to get Pirates out. I would have thought Cox and McDowell should know when Baez is about to blow up, and yank him as soon as he shows the signs. That's the second time he's walked a bunch in the eighth and we lost the game. You've got to hand it to the Pirates' closer though; he handled the meat of the Braves order in the bottom of the ninth with no trouble. With this loss the Braves dropped another game behind the Mets and another game behind the Reds. It's really beginning to look very grim.

                        • That 16 blown games!! Oscar Villarreal pitched well pitched well and he left with the lead, then Danys Baez had to lose it. The playoff chances are slipping....

                          • Reds lost today. We can get right back to where we were. Good things.

Reds play SF and the Dodgers next. The Dodgers swept them at the beginning of the month.

We have tackle Washington and then smash SF to be anywhere close.

I have a prediction: September 3rd the Braves will be at .500

                              Will .500 be good enough?
