  • Well I see San Diego got beat by Cincinnati.

If the weather permits, the Braves can finally get more than a quick highlight of their game on ESPN.

It's time for the Braves to prove they are contenders.
    Go (please) Go Go Braves!

    If weather permits:
Best case scenario = Braves are 3 out of the WC.

Worst case scenario = Braves are 5.5 out of the WC. :grouchy

Sidenote: An optimistic way to look at the wildcard is the loss column. We only have 3 more lesses than the WC leading Padres.

    • This was a big win. I am torn between staying home and grilling some ribs, watching the Braves and Georgia Tech/Notre Dame or going to the bar to watch Alabama (which is on pay per view). It looks like the Braves are serious about making a run at the wild card. I'm starting to get pretty excited.

      • Ward with the clutch 0-2 2-out single up the middle to score two runs.
Frenchy running hard on the triple and in the 9th to beat out the throw for an infield hit.
Wickman for shutting down the heart of the order. Anyone see him after he thought he gave up the homer? Boy did he bounce back and dominate!
Langerhans for breaking out of his slump to get a double and reach on an error.
Yates, yes Yates, for doing an unorthodox job of not giving up runs.

Last but DEFINITELY not least: Adam LaRoche!

How freaking clutch has he been during the 2nd half? I love this guy!

Update: We just moved ahead of Arizona in the WC standings and we're 3½ games out right now! WOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • Good Lord, I should have gone to watch Alabama play. This is absolutely ridiculous. At least I got to see Chipper smash a homer run in his first at bat. I think I'll stick to the Georgia Tech/ Notre Dame game for the rest of the night.

          • The nightcap was UGLYY!! h Kyle Davies was not up to par in his return and the Braves were (choose your adjective) 16-4.

I went out last night and decided to watch the Tech game instead of the Phillies bashing the Braves.
Yep. It looked go in the first inning... that was about it. That game really exposed how weark our bullpen is.
I was hoping Davies could go 5 or 6 innings, but 2&1/3 and that performance... yeesh!

Oh well, it's just a loss not matter what the score is so let's get back on track. Go Braves!

              • This was a tough loss. Wickman blew his first save as a Brave, and our come back was in vain. The worst news is that Chipper's oblique is bothering him again. I'm hoping it is still hurting him worse from the right side, and hopefully he will be in the lineup tonight. Giles is back in Atlanta undergoing some kind of tests. There is not very much to be happy about right now.

                • The test for Giles is a heart ailment. Wickman's lose gives the Braves bullpen 19 blown games.

I don't realize it was a potentially serious health problem. Hopefully everything will turn out well.

                      • I'm so glad the Braves won the last game. It would have been great to hang on for the 3rd game, but oh well.

We walked out of Philly with a .500 record in the series. Now we play the red hot Mets.

                        Go Braves?

                        • Let's see, Lance Cormier pitched 7 strong innings (+), Tyler Yates didn't give up a run (+), and Bob Wickman made up for his blown save in game one (+). If only he didn't blow that 1st game....

                          • .500

I, like many of you, would love to see this team get to .500.

I'm lookin' at the schedule and... is it gonna happen soon? :P
I guessed over a week ago that we could be at .500 by yesterday. That was if we swept the pirates and took 3/4 from the Phillies. Now, it looks as though it's going to be very tough to do. I'll keep the faith though!

Happy Labor Day everybody and Go Braves!

Just learned that Steve "The Crocodile Hunter" Irwin died today. He was stung in the chest by a barbed tail of a stringray in the Great Barrier Reef while filming a documentary on deadly animals of the Sea. He was 44 and is remembered by a wife and 2 children. We'll miss you Steve!

                            • It's all over the news about Steve Irwin. It's very sad and the fact that a stingray did it is so weird!
