What are the chances he retires after the 2010 season?

he had a bad year in 2009

I hope the chances are slim, but according to Chipper himself, if he has another down year similar to 2009 he'll hang it up after the season.

We'll see if he feels that way if it happens. It's a very tough decision for some players to make, and I don't think it's any different for Chipper.

I have a feeling 2010 may be it for Chipper. I have an odd feeling this next season will be it for him. Whenever he does call it a career, I'll be a bit emotional because he's probably one of the few true heroes in baseball. I truly have appreciated his toughness, grit and of course, his style of play.

yea, i wonder if he will just leave when bobby leaves, even if he does have a good year next year. either way, i am gonna try my hardest to make it to the last braves home game for the next couple years. would really like to be there when he hangs it up.

My son has a hitting lesson with Chipper this weekend. It should be interesting. I'll see if I can get a read on how he's approaching this upcoming season.

It could be his final season. I don't think he will play anywhere else as some might think he could move to the AL and DH. We'll see how it goes.

Chipper is a class-act. Wish more players were like him. I think he is going to retire after the season but one of my good buddies that knows more about baseball than I do think he is going to play until he hits 500.

Chipper Jones confident of ‘monster' rebound season

It's a new year, and Braves third baseman Chipper Jones is expecting different results than in 2009. Just one season after winning the National League batting title with a career-high .364 average, Jones hit only .264 with 18 homers and 71 RBIs -- all career-worst marks for the six-time All-Star. He's entering the first season of a three-year, $42 million contract extension signed last spring. However, Jones, who will turn 38 in April, has said he might retire after the upcoming season if he doesn't play better than he did in 2009.

those were both really good articles about chipper. I can already feel that this is going to be an emotional year for the Braves and us fans.

Not exactly, he did have a 118 OPS+ after all...

Sure that may not be Chipper-Esque but I wouldn't go as far as saying mediocre.
