  • Braves acquire Brandon Phillips

The Reds and Braves are nearing a trade that would send second baseman Brandon Phillips from Cincinnati to Atlanta. Phillips has agreed to waive his no-trade rights, tweets USA Today’s Bob Nightengale. Phillips previously blocked the Braves’ attempt to acquire him in January, which came after he shot down efforts from the Nationals and Diamondbacks to land him a year ago. Atlanta will send 27-year-old left-hander Andrew McKirahan and 29-year-old right-hander Carlos Portuondo to Cincinnati.

Must have given him something in return for him waiving the no trade clause. It should be a good move for the Braves as he will bring experience to the team

Fine with me. Puts less pressure on Albies and his development.

Also, obviously, it was necessitated with Sean Rodriguez's injury, which sort of kills their supersub plan and forces them to go back to Jace Peterson and Chase d'Arnaud as backups. Those two have to at least have a solid average this year because they won't contribute much otherwise.
