Why is this confusing? The Braves bench sucks; you'll be lucky to get two homers out of all of them combined. There's no risk to kicking the tires on Howard; at best, he has something left and can be promoted to serve as a DH during a stretch of interleague games. If he has nothing left, no harm done.
46 wins to match last year's total

Ryan Howard was worth -1.5 WAR last season.

For $750,000 there is no risk here at all. He will likely be a travesty of a ballplayer - but if he does, it costs peanuts. If he contributes, it is a steal.

And the Braves gave 671 PAs to players who had a combined BBRef WAR of -3.4 last year. This acquistion is hardly going to harm them in practice.

At Ryan's age and for the reason he was signed, do you think his WAR really matters?? It was a good signing for the Braves Even if he bats >190, if he gives you 15-20 Hr's and a decent number of rbi's, it's well worth the money.

That's what I was trying to say. Blue was confused about the signing and brought up his WAR. Just for kicks, I looked it up last night and 28.3% of the Braves PAs went to guys with any total of negative BBRef WAR. That includes Matt Kemp, so take that for what you will.

Heck, the Braves don't need to worry about WAR this year at all because factors need to be calculated for a season at SunTrust.

Tires kicked on Howard, though it looks like he has another business venture lined up:
