CP to Bal is closing in...it would be CP for a minor league prospect who is not one of BAL's top 5
for once, i don't agree w/ this CP trade...we can package him for a more helpful piece

Who knows what the Cubs will be getting in return for Patterson. Here's my question.
What really is to stop the Orioles from dealing Tejada to let's just say the Cubs for a handful of the Cubs top prospects? No Prior, but the likes of Pie, Hill, Guzman, & Dopriak? Or something of that nature? THink about it, and it makes some sense...though would piss off the Orioles fans. If the Orioles were to get Manny/Clement or Prior/Hill or Abreu/Madson, any of these "supposed" offers, the team would still easily end up in 4th in the AL East behind NYY, BOS, and even possibly TOR. So why make such a lateral move? If you think about it, it does make sense for the Orioles to trade Tejada for a handful of top prospects and have top quality, cheap, talent in the MLB in 2 or 3yrs, that would actually make the entire team better, not just one position.Witnessing a team doing a complete 180 since the 2003 playoffs...

i completely agree...with the orioles trading tejada away, if they do, its almost as if they are back to square 1 of rebuilding...so prospects like you mentioned, pie, hill guzman, and dopirak, would definitely help them in the rebuilding stages...i know most people might think we are giving up our top pitcher and top position player prospects, but for tejada? it could be worth it...also, about the patterson trade, supposedly 3 other American League teams have contacted hendry about patterson, that came from bruce levine on espn radio...i think right now, all you can get for corey is a prospect...he is so bad and his mental part of baseball is so lost, its going to take A LOT to get him back to a solid baseball player...anyways, have a great day everyone!

I don't think you can trade CP for a bag of balls. With a career OBP of .293 the Cubs should be greatful if the balls were good enough for BP.
As for the O's trading Tejada, the smart money is on "ain't gonna happen". DeAngelos is a notorious dragger of the feet when it comes to something like that. The only way to get him off the dime is to overwhelm him with an over. That is not what you are proposing.Buck O'Neil: The Monarch of Baseball

i just thought of a nice little scenario...i heard on espn radio a day or 2 ago that hendry should just forget about tejada and turn his attention to alfonso soriano of the nationals...soriano is still unhappy in washington, he wants to play 2nd base, not the outfield...and the nationals have also reported making it clear that they want pitching in return...now, considering the nationals are among 4 teams after the very low key services of corey patterson, why not make a nice little package offer...how about something like corey patterson, todd walker, rich hill, and angel guzman for alfonso soriano and a prospect?...too much?...well what about corey patterson, rich hill, and angel guzman for soriano and a prospect?...either of the trades seems to me like a good deal both ways...even though nationals lose their big name player, they get what they want in return...for some reason they want to try and revive patterson's career, so they get their wishes...they also want pitching in return for soriano, so they get what they want in hill and guzman...unless of course, they are looking for MLB ready starters...but then again, hill could possibly be ready for the majors, in a couple games with the cubs, he showed great control, poise, and how good his stuff is...guzman, if healthy, has the potential to be a good MLB level pitcher, you never know...i think hendry should explore some opportunities with the nationals...
ronny cedeno finished 3rd in the venzuala (sorry if misspelled) winter league with a .362 batting average, while racking up an ugly 12 errors in only 33 games...it looks like we have a very solid and promissing young player for SS or 2nd Base, i hope he can do the same with a full year of MLB service...so, i guess what im getting at is todd walker is now ever more expandable then before...now, hendry could turn away from tejada, and stop flirting with the idea of trading mark prior, and look to the nationals for soriano, who would cost us less in regards of giving up players for him...
todd walker would give the nationals a backup 2nd baseman or outfielder who could play alot of 2nd base for them since they made it clear they do not want to push vidro back into starting right away, after coming off surgery...with that, when vidro is ready to start again, they can play todd walker to give vidro a day off, same with nick johnson at 1b...patterson, well they can do whatever the hell they want with him cuz its going to take alot more then everyone thinks to get him back into baseball form...his mind and smarts for baseball is just completely diminished, whether its dusty bakers fault or his own, thye r just all gone...
a new discussion we can talk about i guess...enjoy...cya guys!

Maybe this will be the end of the Tejada crisis. Hendry can just give Patterson to the Orioles and tell them to leave him alone. Thou shall not covet Prior or thy best prospects... especially for a 30 year old malcontent who'll ask to traded again anyway when he finds out that the Cubs aren't commited to winning.
Who needs Tejada anyway, we have Neifi slotted for the 2 hole next year.
Dusty will make sure Pierre's speed is put to good use... he'll use him to hit in front of Neifi in hopes of lowering Neifi's GIDP's on the weak infield noodlers he hits from the left side.beware of the censorship police

tejada told baltimore officials he is willing to stay in batlimore, he just doesnt want to lose anymore...well im sorry tejada, but thats whats gonna happen when you go to a team that does nothing to improve, and is stuck in a division with the yankees who buy every start, the red sox who are that pesty winning type team, and the blue jays who continue to get much stronger each year...i would not be surprised to see hendry pull his attention to julio lugo or alfonso soriano (see my earlier post)...besides, it would make alot more sense going after one of those guys (preferrably soriano), then tejada who it would take one of our superstars to get...i also saw on prosportsdaily.com that there are now several teams interested in corey patterson...so even though we didnt get tejada, which i knew he was going to stay in baltimore anyways, i think we have some pretty good options to turn to...cya

according to ESPN
The O's acquired outfielder Corey Patterson from the Cubs for shortstop Nate Spears and left-hander Carlos Perez.
The Baltimore Orioles acquired outfielder Corey Patterson from the Chicago Cubs on Monday for shortstop Nate Spears and left-hander Carlos Perez.
Patterson, who became expendable when the Cubs acquired Juan Pierre from the Marlins on Dec. 7, hit .215 with 13 homers and 34 RBI in 2005. In six career seasons, all with the Cubs, Patterson has 70 homers and a .252 average.Jerseys hanging in my den : Santo, Jenkins, Williams, Banks, Grace, Sandberg, Dawson, Eckersley, Sutcliffe, Wood, Prior, Zambrano, Lee
Oddly enough, I never bought a Sosa jersey, even during his best years.

Sounds like the Cubs may have gotten hosed on this one. I personally would have much rather seen the Cubs give Corey a shot in RF than sign Jones. Oh well. Seems like the players in return aren't anything special. I find it hard to believe that this is the best Hendry could have gotten for CPat. I'm a little dissapointed.Witnessing a team doing a complete 180 since the 2003 playoffs...
